This year, Hristina Ivanoska and Yane Calovski’s collaborative project We are all in this alone represented the Republic of Macedonia at the 56th Venice Biennale. Curated by Başak Şenova, the first foreign curator appointed to the Pavilion of the Republic of Macedonia, the project was commissioned by the deputy curator Maja Cankulovska Mihajlovska of the National Gallery of Macedonia and supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia.

We are all in this alone addresses the notion of faith in today’s concurrent and multiple socio-political conditions. While searching for political values in the representations of formal aesthetic and literary sources, the work carries a specific urgency to articulate ways we continuously engage and disengage the past from the present while questioning the notion of faith.

External activity | Yane Calovski | Conference “Inside Out-Critical Artistic Debates Concerning Institutions” | City Museum of Ljubljana | 20-21 November, 2016.

The general aim of the conference Inside Out is to take a close look at the theoretical propositions and critical art practices of artists, art collectives, researchers, and institutions from Central and South-Eastern Europe that focus on redefining the existing models of institutions, reframing their programs, and improving working conditions in art production. The participants will talk about the changing relations between artists and museums, galleries, and other public and private spaces (involved in producing, presenting, and collecting contemporary art) in our time of socio-political and economic shifts, and reflect on the need to pursue alternative cross-institutional or trans-institutional models of institutions, devise strategies for them, and redefine their roles.

Програмата на вториот дел од овогодинешното четврто по ред издание на Симпозиумот „Кураторски размени 4“ третира прашања поврзaни со концептот за социјална држава, начините на кои тој кореспондира со прекаријатскиот општествено-критички произведен дискурс и неговите манифестации во денешниот културен контекст. Истовремено покренува теми кои се важни за моменталните случувања на глобално ниво: уметнички практики кои се осврнувааат на начините на комуникација меѓу различни социјални и економски структури, прекаријатска егзистенција и вреднување на трудот, подемот на екстремната десница во Европа, несреќата на бегалците од граѓанската војна во Сирија, или можниот пресврт кон не-монетарна економија.

Програмата вклучува предавање од Алберт Хета (Albert Heta) уметник, куратор и ко-основач на независната уметничка институција Стацион – Центар за современа уметност (Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art) во Приштина и Андерс Кројгер (Anders Kruger), куратор во M HKA, Музејот на современа уметност во Антверп.

CURATING EXCHANGE 4: Artistic Labor between the Resistance and the Precariat

The program of the International Symposium “Curatorial exchanges 4” reflects on the questions related with the concept of the welfare state, the ways in which it corresponds with the precarious socially critical discourse and its manifestations in today’s cultural context. It also raises topics of relevance to the current situation in the world, such as the communication between citizens of different socio-economic status, the social implications of artificial intelligence, the changing status of labor, the rise of the European far-right, the plight of refugees from the civil war in Syria, or a possible shift to a non-monetary economy.

The program includes lectures by Albert Heta, artist, designer, social critic and the head curator of Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina, and Anders Kreuger, curator at M HKA, the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp, and one of the editors of the London-based art journal Afterall.

Јаков Северн е поет и визуелен уметник. Неговото пишување и уметнички дела се однесуваат на репрезентацијата, медијаторското искуство, траењето и ефемерноста. Во Сиетл, тој го основал уметничкиот простор Healthy Times Fun Club. Тој е ко-основач на Kimberly-Klark, проектен простор во Ridgewood, Квинс. Уредник е на micropress Snacks, Inc и ефемерниот литературен дигитален сајт HARIBO. Магистрант е по креативно пишување на The New School во Њујорк.

Проектниот простор Прес ту егзит со задоволство известува дека уметниците Христина Иваноска и Јане Чаловски ќе имаат свое претставување во рамки на изложбата „Виножито во мракот: За радоста и маките на верата“ (Rainbow in the Dark: On the Joy and Torment of Faith) која од 17 октомври до 17 јануари 2016 ќе биде отворена во Музејот за модерна и современа уметност во Малме, Шведска. Куратори на изложбата се Галит Еилат (Galit Eilat) и Себастиан Цихочки (Sebastian Cichocki).

Нивното ново зедничко дело, создадено за оваа изложба, e насловено “Премолчено”, и e претставено на три ленени платна третирани со текстилна боја, графит и конец. Делата се изложени во комбинација со неколку претходно создадени индивидуални дела од двајцата автори, како што е делото “Без наслов (Двополово едно)” од Христина Иваноска, како и делата “Избришана икона V”, и “Без наслов (Пол Тек писмо, 1971) од Јане Чаловски.

press to exit project space, in cooperation with apexart Fellowship Program, from the period of 17 of October till 15 of November, is hosting Jacob Severn, who ives and works in New York. Jacob Severn is a poet and visual artist. His writing and artwork deal with representation, mediated experience, concealment, expiration, and ephemerality. In Seattle, he founded the art space Healthy Times Fun Club. He is the co-founder of Kimberly-Klark, a project space in Ridgewood, Queens. He edits the micropress Snacks, Inc. and the digital ephemeral literature site HARIBO. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from The New School in New York City. Born outside Seattle in 1982, Jacob now lives with the educator Rebecca Severn in New York. He loves standard poodles and the Goodyear Blimp.

Rainbow in the Dark: On the Joy and Torment of Faith

press to exit project space is pleased to anounce that the artists Hhristina Ivanoska and Jane Chalovski are exibiting as part of the exhibition “Rainbow in the Dark: On the Joy and Torment of Faith” that from the period of October 17 till January 17, 2016, will be opened at the Museum of Modern Art in Malmö, Sweden. The exibition is curated by Galit Eilat and Sebastian Cichocki.

Their new collaborative work created for this exhibition, which is entitled Unspoken, is made upon three linen cloths treated with textile paint, graphite and thread. The works are exhibited in combination with several previously created individual works of the authors.

The meeting of the jury, whose representatives were part of the organizations involved in the project, from Austria and the countries of the Western Balkans, was held in September in Vienna. press to exit project space has the honor to announce the participation in the 5th edition of Art Market Budapest, the international art fair in Hungary, running from 8 – 12 October 2015 at Cultural Center Millenaris in Budapest. The fair will offer a comprehensive range of art works from around 30 countries represented by local and international galleries and non – profit spaces.

In the same time its concept is to present a unique artistic composition in perhaps the most exciting exhibition halls in Europe, that, while it features some of the exhibitors welcomed even by the oldest art fairs, gives an emphasised presence to a younger generation of galleries and artists. In that way the fair defines a new cultural region: Young Europe, where we may find combined influences from the former Communist countries stretching from the Baltic States to the Balkans, and from such sources of cultural inspiration as Turkey or Israel in the South, countries of Central Asia in the East, or even a progressive new generation of artists from the already established West.

Саемот ќе понуди презентација на широк спектар на уметнички дела од околу 30 земји од светот, претставени од домашни и интернационални галерии и непрофитни организации. Истиот е концепиран како единствена уметничка композиција од највозбудливите изложбени простори во Европа, која освен што претставува изложувачи добредојдени од уметничките саеми со најстара традиција, акцентот го става и на присуството на младата генерација на галеристи и уметници. Во четврток на 24 Септември во 20ч. во Градската уметничка галерија во Љубљана ќе се отвори изложбата Наопаку – не толку бела коцка што е дел од долготрајниот и ко-кураторски истражувачки и интердисциплинарен проект инициран од Аленка Грегорич, уметничка директорка на Градската уметничка галерија во Љубљана (City Art Gallery Ljubljana), и Сузана Милевска, независна кураторка и теоретичарка на уметност од Македонија. Inside Out – Not so White Cube

Inside Out – Not So White Cube is a long-term research and co-curatorial cross-disciplinary project initiated by Alenka Gregorič, the artistic director of the City Art Gallery Ljubljana and CC Tobacco 001 (MGML), and Suzana Milevska, independent curator and art theorist based in Macedonia. The project consists of two exhibitions (or possibly more), a conference, and two publications (a catalogue and a reader). The institution hosting the project is the City Art Gallery Ljubljana (MGML), in partnership with four principal long-term researchers (Vít Havránek, Zoran Erić, Vladimir Vidmar, and Raluca Voinea) and in collaboration with several other short-term researchers and curators (Sandra Bradvić, Barbara Dudás, and Lucia Gregorová Stach), institutions, and organizations from Central and South-Eastern Europe (the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Rijeka and the Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade), which will stage additional events and exhibitions to be organized according to the relevance of the subtopics in the course of the development of the project.

Haushaltsmesse at the Masters’ Houses Dessau

How can we live in a healthy and economical way – now and in the future? The Haushaltsmesse at the grounds of the Masters’ Houses provides answers – from a creative, artistic, research, historic, and activist perspective. Starting from 4th May ten international artists and design collectives – among them Yane Calovski (Macedonia), produce their contributions on sight at the Masters’ Houses. From 12th June to 9th August the completed Haushaltsmesse will be on display: together with the art pieces an Archive Room and a Study Space – a place for experimental household research – will be exhibited.

The houses once designed by Walter Gropius for the Bauhaus masters – seen in the 1920s as showcases for the modern way of living and housekeeping and now UNESCO World Heritage sites – will thereby serve as a point of departure for the investigation of the art of housekeeping and budgeting in the 21st century. In question are new housekeeping, budgeting, sharing, and economic strategies. Unlike the trade fairs and large-scale exhibitions of the modernist era, which publicly addressed household issues as early as the 1920s, the Haushaltsmesse on the grounds of the Masters’ Houses should not be regarded as an exhibition of individual objects. Here, the household is exhibited – or, rather, addressed – as a “modus operandi”: it is less about the presentation of technologies and objects in the household than about the practice of housekeeping.
