After holding the Always Ready exhibition in the YCC, Skopje in 2014, Neda Firfova with curator Ivana Vaseva have the pleasure to welcome you to the exhibition Always Ready in Gallery MC in New York City.

The project Always Ready was initiated by Neda Firfova in 2012 and it researched the disappearance of the thousands of cardboard books imported from China, and used for the creation of the ideological image backdrop in the mass games in communist Albania. The project focused on the reproduction of singled-out book objects and performances with them, while growing into a complex study of powerstyles. To the artist, these books have become meta-symbols of lost Eastern modernist knowledge and she uses them as reference symbols when critiquing the re-dress of the metabolist and brutalist architecture from the 1960s and 70s in her hometown of Skopje and its labelling as “Baroque”.

The exhibition will feature original book objects, video works and a printed archive from the project spanning from 2012 to 2016.

press to exit project space is pleased to announce that the artist Wolfgang Obermair during the months of August and September realizes residential stay in Skopje, Macedonia, as part of the art residency project WEST BALKAN CALLING. His residencial stay in 2016. will be organized by press to exit project space in collaboration with < rotor > center for contemporary art Graz.

Wolfgang Obermair (born in Germany) is an artist and curator in the field of art and architecture based in Vienna, Austria. He studied geography, painting and media art in Dresden, Nuremberg and Karlsruhe and worked as lecturer and assistant professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg and the Viennese Art School. Currently he teaches at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in the department for Transmedial Art. Obermair´s work was shown in various cities including Moscow, Beijing, Porto, Zagreb, Vienna. Moreover he has been curating exhibitions for the Nuremberg art association kunstbunker – forum für zeitgenössische kunst (http://www.kunstbunker-nuernberg.org). Since 2012 he is member and coordinator of the Viennese non-profit art space Schneiderei (http://seeyounextthursday.com). Obermair is co-editor (with E. Shaipiro-Obermair) of “Das Große Moskau, das es niemals gab” (The Big Moscow that has never existed. 2008, Vienna: Schlebrügge), which examines the position of constructivist architecture in today´s Moscow.

Проектниот простор Прес ту егзит со задоволство објавува дека австрискиот уметник Wolfgang Obermair, почнувајќи од 22 август 2016 година, остварува резиденциски престој во Скопје, како дел од програмата на проектот WEST BALKAN CALLING. Резиденцискиот престој на Обермаир е во организација на < rotor >, асоцијација за современа уметност од Грац, во соработка со Проектниот простор Прес ту Егзит. 

Проектниот простор Прес ту егзит за оваа програма предложи десет македонски уметници од помладата генерација, од кои, по одлука на меѓународно жири во текот на месец април 2016. резиденциски престој во  < rotor >, асоцијацијата за современа уметност од Грац веќе оствари уметникот Велимир Жерновски. Возвратно, кон крајот на месец август Проектниот простор Прес ту егзит го очекува пристигнувањето на уметникот Wolfgang Obermair на едномесечен резиденциски престој во Скопје, во рамки на што ќе се случи и претставување на неговата уметничка практика пред поширока публика.

The exhibition re-evaluates the works of three Slovenian аuthors/practices, whose buildings in Skopje have become key urban landmarks, defining ‘cities-within-the city’: MOB – the Macedonian Opera and Ballet, as part of the Cultural Centre by Biro 71 (built between 1972-’81), UKIM – the University Centre Ss. Cyril and Methodius by Marko Mušič (built 1970-’74), PMF – the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences by Edvard Ravnikar (built 1949-’51).

The exhibition Upside Down: Hosting the Critique is built on the long-term curatorial and research project Inside Out which was initiated by Alenka Gregorič and Suzana Milevska in 2014 who co-curated the first exhibition entitled Inside-Out: Not so White Cube held in the City Art Gallery Ljubljana/MGML from September 24th to November 22nd in 2015. After the realization of the first exhibition, publication and the conference in Ljubljana, the decision was made to form a joint curatorial-research team comprising six curators and researchers (Zoran Erić, Alenka Gregorič, Vit Havránek, Suzana Milevska, Vladimir Vidmar and Raluca Voinea), who were offered an equal role in the adaptation of the exhibition to the context of Belgrade. The exhibition Upside Down: Hosting the Critique was thus reconfigured for a new contextual and institutional framework. The primary focus of the curatorial-research team was placed on the position of museums which is one of the dominant subjects of this exhibition. 

Upside Down: Hosting the Critique is a co-curatorial cross-disciplinary exhibition which focuses on the transformation of the role(s) of museums, galleries and other public institutions in the production, presentation and collection of contemporary art in periods of transition and the part played by artists and independent artist-run spaces in these activities.

Traveling through gaps of imagination, summoning ghosts of the colonial presence, following traces of unfinished revolutionary moments. Momentary openings of I-think-I-know, animated suspension, presence of absence. Do not be afraid.

In the frame of Hauntopia/What if, conceptualized and organized by the PhD in Practice program at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Hristina Ivanoska (PhD in Practice candidate) executed a fragment of her research project “Document Missing: the intricate sense of truth in oral history” in a form of a performance titled “Document Missing: performance no. 3”.

In the work Ivanoska returns to retracing the life and work of Rosa Plaveva (1873-1970) a social-democrat, fighter for women’s rights and activist to detect and understand the conflicting emancipation processes in Macedonia in the first half of the 20th century. The sources of information are based on oral interpretation of historic events which are inconsistent and prone to manipulation that inspired her to use performance as a tool to confront the past in the context of the present. Ivanoska has worked with the history of Rosa Plaveva since 2004.

Во рамките на Hauntopia / What if, концептуално осмислена и организирана од страна на докторската програма PhD in Practice на Академијата за ликовни уметности во Виена, Христина Иваноска (кандидат на истата програма) презентира дел од своето истражување за проектот “Документ кој недостасува: деликатното разбирање на вистината во усната историја ” во форма на перформанс насловен “Документ кој недостасува: перформанс бр.3”.  Во ова дело Иваноска се враќа на промислување на животот и делото на Роза Плавева (1873-1970) социјал-демократка, борец за женски права и активистка, со намера да ги детектира и да разбере конфликтните еманципациски процеси во Македонија во првата половина на 20 век. Изворите на информации се базираат врз усна интерпретација на историските настани, кои се неконзистентни и склони кон манипулација, а кои уметницата  ја инспирираат да го искористи перформансот како алатка за соочување со минатото, во контекст на сегашноста. Иваноска работи дела во контекст на историјата на Роза Плавева од 2004 година.

The emergence of ‘precarity’ as a ‘worldwide symptom of neoliberalism’ signals both a socio-economic condition and an ontological experience under the global regime of late capitalism. In the current political moment, precarity has come to designate a shift away from job security, an erosion of social belonging, and a loss of well-being for a neoliberalized citizenry, whose daily lives are increasingly marked by economic instability, uncertain futures, risky livelihoods, and a perceived dependence on the political will of elite actors. Such precarious shifts, furthermore, are deeply embedded in an intersectional hierarchization that signifies some bodies as more precarious and less grievable, with relating differentiations in social positions of insecurity.

press to exit project space is pleased to announce the Open Call for Summer School as a School 2016 organized by Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina.

‘Summer School as a School (SSAS) is an art and schooling platform, stationed in Prishtina, with collaborating partners in Ljubljana, New York, Belgrade, Vienna, Oslo, Skopje, and Sarajevo.

SSAS is envisioned as a guide and an intervention, designed to unite and disseminate critical knowledge and address relevant challenges of today, with new models and possibilities in art education and art collaboration. Course leaders, lecturers, and collaborators for SSAS 2016 have compiled a challenging and inspiring program for participants and the public, structured as a hub with seven courses, which combine theory-based classes and production classes, public lectures and presentations, guided tours, exhibitions, and performances, to produce a unique experience and a model.

The organizer, Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina, provides scholarships for participation at the Summer School for two Macedonian candidates.

The program is held 3–18 July, 2016. The application deadline is 19 June, 2016. The results will be announced no later than 22 June, 2016.

Проектниот простор Прес ту егзит со задоволство информира дека Stacion – Центарот за современа уметност од Приштина го објави отворениот повик за учество на летната школа Summer School as a School (SSAS) за 2016 година.

Summer School as a School (SSAS) е уметничка и образовна платформа иницирана и имплементирана од Stacion – Центарот за современа уметност во Приштина во соработка со The Academy for Visual Arts (AVA), Љубљана,  Independent Curators International (ICI) Њу Јорк, Проектен простоp Прес ту Егзит од Скопје , и ArsAevi, Сараево.

Организаторот  Stacion – Центарот за современа уметност овозможува финансирање на учество на школата за двајца македонски кандидати.

Програмата на школата ќе се одржува во периодот од 3-ти до 18-ти јули, 2016 година. Крајниот рок за пријавување на истата е 19 јуни 2016.
