Presentation and call for application: Summer School as a school: experience of an interdisciplinary educational program in Pristina (Kosovo)
press to exit project space gladly informs that Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art in Prishtina announced the open call for participation in Summer School as a School (SSAS) for 2017.
Summer School as School is an art and schooling platform, initiated and implemented in Prishtina by Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina together with the partner institutions from Ljubljana, New York, Belgrade, Vienna, Oslo, Skopje and Sarajevo.
The application deadline is April 30, 2017. The results will be announced no later than May 5, 2017. The program is held July 10–24, 2017.
Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art as the organizer, in collaboration with press to exit project space in Skopje as partner organization from Skopje, will granted scholarships for participation for Macedonian candidates.
Therefore, we invite interested students and the public on 11 April (Tuesday) at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje at 15.00 to attend the project presentation where the initiator and organizer of the project Albert Heta will present this year’s program of Summer School as School and the opportunities for participation and collaboration. His presentation will be followed by the discussion with Yane Calovski, co-founder of the partner organization press to exit project space, Bujar Hohxa, professor and lecturer at Summer School as School for 2016., and Natasha Nedelkova, the last year participant in the project Summer School as School who will share her experiences with the audience.
With Summer School as School, Stacion – Center for Contemporary Art Prishtina and partner institutions have created a unique collaborative international educational platform based in Prishtina, as a progressing model; developing an interdisciplinary curriculum and engaging practitioners in sharing knowledge and expertise with international students and the public.
The program for 2017 is structured as a hub with nine courses, combining theory-based and production classes, public lectures and presentations, guided tours, exhibitions and performances, producing a unique experience for participants and the public.
Originally inspired by the case of Kosovo, where the education system was structured in the mid-1970s, Summer School as School is designed to unite and disseminate critical knowledge and address relevant challenges of today, implementing new models and possibilities in art education and artistic collaboration.
The faculty of Summer School as School 2017 includes Alfred Barr, Boris Buden, Triple Canopy, Yane Calovski, Beatriz Colomina, Keti Chukhrov, Adrian Deva, Patricia Falguières, Rike Frank, Felix Gmelin, Petrit Halilaj, Sami Khatib, Vjollca Krasniqi, Christian Rattemeyer, Bernhard Rudiger, Jovana Stokić, Nebojsa Milikić, Miran Mohar, Marina Otero, Renaud Proch, Besa Shahini, Branimir Stojanović, among others.
The program of Summer School as School includes the following courses:
Course 1: In the Museum of History by Boris Buden; Course 2: Performativity and its Institutional Ethics by Keti Chukhrov; Course 3: Curating and Global Feminisms, course by Jovana Stokić; Course 4: Exhibiting: (En)Countering Temporalities by Rike Frank; Course 5: The Rearview Mirror by Felix Gmelin; Course 6: Painting (Re)Framed by Adrian Deva; Course 7: Only the Code Remains the Same: Publication as Material, Window, Forum, Copy, Container for Time by Molly Kleiman (Triple Canopy); Course 8: Architecture Exhibitions and the Politics of the Temporal by Marina Otero; Course 9: Memory and Typography by Toledo i Dertschei.
Summer School as School 2017 is organized in cooperation with Allianz Cultural Foundation, supported by ERSTE Foundation, Trust for Mutual Understanding (TMU), Municipality of Prishtina, Independent Curators International (ICI) and RIT Kosovo.
